About the role

The SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's Office of Technology Transfer & Strategic Partnerships (TT&SP) is seeking an intern to support the Energy I-Corps program (Waveguide). This program aims to build a sustainable pipeline for technology commercialization by bridging the gap between scientific discoveries and practical applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with SLAC researchers to identify and evaluate research projects with commercial potential
  • Apply market-driven evaluation criteria to assess technology readiness and commercial viability
  • Contact and interview potential customers to build relationships and determine use cases for SLAC-developed technologies
  • Support the development of commercialization strategies for promising technologies
  • Aid in organizing commercialization seminars featuring Silicon Valley investors and entrepreneurs
  • Help prepare technology assessment reports and presentations
  • Support documentation and tracking of project outcomes

Requirements

Currently enrolled in final year of study in undergraduate science, engineering, or business program or enrolled in graduate program

Demonstrated interest in technology commercialization or entrepreneurship

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences

Problem-solving and analysis skills

Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and complete assignments

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an MBA program

Background in deep tech, physical sciences, or related fields

Previous experience in technology commercialization or startup environments

Experience with market analysis and business strategy

Familiarity with business model canvas and customer discovery methodologies

Note: This is an hourly, non-benefits eligible temporary-nonexempt, summer internship position (work at 50% full-time equivalent or more), not to exceed 980 hours in a calendar year.

Pay and Schedule

The expected pay range for this position is $26.17 - $30.63 per hour.

The program duration is 12 weeks and is full-time on-site. Hours are estimated to be 40 hours per week.
