Intern Systems Programmer Mainframe
About the Role
Provide technical skills that cover a broad range of disciplines in basic Windows platform knowledge applicable to the HCA environment. Preferred knowledge in data protection, though it can be taught on the job. The role involves identifying, investigating, evaluating, and becoming proficient in new technologies relevant to the HCA Healthcare Mainframe environment.
An Intern Systems Programmer - Mainframe will assist in the administration and management of various mainframe systems software products, including administration of existing software and hardware, technical documentation, engineering, issue resolution, and technical presentations.
Responsibilities
- Installation of software products, including third-party software and IBM operating system installation and customization.
- Troubleshoot, coordinate, assist, and advise in recovery from component failures of supported systems.
- Focus on technologies including IBM z/OS mainframe, mainframe storage, and tape systems.
- Learn and work with the systems/platforms mentioned above.
- Practice communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a group setting.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and self-driven learning of new technologies.
- Develop troubleshooting skills and a desire to resolve problems.
- Communicate and present ideas effectively to users at various levels, management, and end users.
- Assist in developing and executing plans for disaster recovery.
- Monitor systems and identify issues requiring resolution.
- Document IT&S mainframe processes and procedures.
- Perform implementations for multiple hardware and software products to ensure interoperability.
- Become familiar with after-hours support and on-call rotation.
- Participate in day-to-day troubleshooting of process and systems failures, including software and hardware issues.
- Utilize automation tools to streamline processes.
- Open problem tickets with vendors and work toward resolution.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree is required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Less than one year of experience required; no previous systems software experience needed.
- Knowledge of standard Windows operating systems and functions.
- Knowledge of standard networking, TCP/IP, and DNS.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and design ability with creativity.
- General knowledge of data protection, failure, or prevention.
- Self-driven with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and resolve issues.
- Good project planning and communication skills.
- Ability to quickly earn trust and build strong, positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Pay
$20 per hour for 40 hours per week.
