INTERN- Sacco Lab
Position Summary
The integration of current coursework into an internship bridges the gap between academic study and professional practice, forming a bidirectional learning cycle. This process allows interns to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world challenges while using professional experiences to refine and deepen their understanding of academic concepts.
Internship Learning Objectives and Outcomes
- Acquire expertise in cell culture, which includes culturing murine skeletal muscle cells, and co-culturing with conditioned media from immune and fibroblast cells.
- Perform confocal imaging of cultured cells.
- Perform quantitative analysis (western blot and qPCR).
Expected Outcomes
- By the end of the internship, the student will have gained introductory knowledge of biomedical research, liver biology, laboratory safety, research ethics, and experimental design.
- The intern will also develop basic supervised skills in scientific observation, data interpretation, literature discussion, scientific communication, and introductory laboratory techniques such as pipetting and basic sample handling.
