Laboratory Intern

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Follow laboratory safety procedures and promptly report any safety concerns or issues to laboratory staff.
• Assist with sample login, labeling, and organization for incoming laboratory samples.
• Support laboratory staff with basic sample preparation, subsampling, and general laboratory setup activities.
• Assist with routine wet chemistry testing such as pH, compatibility, density, and other basic analyses under supervision.
• Gain exposure to laboratory instrumentation and analytical techniques including IC, BTU, ICP, and other equipment as assigned.
• Perform data entry and maintain accurate documentation within laboratory digital logbooks, spreadsheets, and electronic quality systems.
• Assist with recording test results, quality control data, and instrument maintenance records in accordance with laboratory procedures.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and proper chemical handling and waste disposal practices.
• Assist with preparation of reagents, standards, chemical solutions, and inventory organization under guidance from laboratory staff.
• Assist with special studies in the laboratory and possibly in the field.
• Assist with laboratory operations, special projects, and other duties as assigned while gaining hands-on experience in environmental laboratory processes and quality systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or working towards a bachelor's of science or related degree.
• Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, presentation and facilitation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships.
