Intern - Public Health Preparedness and Response (Fall)
Session: Fall (September – December). Agency: Department of Health. Location: Sioux Falls. Minimum salary: $20.53/hour.
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester.
About the role
The South Dakota Department of Health is seeking a Public Health Preparedness and Response Intern. This internship will involve engaging and communicating with public health preparedness staff in emergency plan updates, planning meetings, training, exercises, inventory and warehouse management, and ongoing public health emergency responses. The intern will gain valuable experience in public health emergency preparedness.
Responsibilities
- Assist with emergency plan updates
- Participate in planning meetings, training, and exercises
- Support inventory and warehouse management
- Engage in ongoing public health emergency responses
Requirements
- Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time of application
- By the start of the internship, must have completed one year (nine months) of the chosen program
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs or more
- Must be willing to travel throughout South Dakota
Qualifications
Preference may be given to applicants who are juniors or seniors, South Dakota residents, or students of South Dakota institutions. The ideal candidate will have:

- Strong self-direction
- Ability to take on and lead projects
Pay
$20.53/hour.
