Intern - Public Finance (Austin, TX)

Hilltop Securities Inc. is seeking qualified students to join our Public Finance team as a Summer Intern. This in-person internship runs from May 27, 2027 to July 30, 2027, with opportunities in downtown Dallas at our HTS Tower location and at various branch locations nationwide.

About the role

This internship offers hands-on experience in the financial services industry, working closely with our Public Finance team to assist with key initiatives. Interns will develop entry-level experience, including the development and delivery of initiatives and effective practices.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with Traders and Public Finance bankers for hands-on experience, including data analysis and delivering presentations to Public Finance leadership.
• Perform financial data analysis.
• Review client memos and assist with the development of presentation materials and proposals for new and existing clients.
• Shadow full-time employees as they interact with potential and existing clients.
• Assist Public Finance bankers and disclosure departments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Rising Senior pursuing a finance or related field is preferred.
• Some experience (0 – 1 year) is preferred but not required.
• Strong interest in public finance investment banking.
• Proficiency with computer hardware, operating systems (Windows or Mac), and software/applications (MS Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook, etc.).
• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
• Proven self-starter who can initiate tasks and follow up to completion.
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
• Desire to learn about career opportunities in the financial services industry.
• Must have authorization to work for any employer in the US without requiring sponsorship, whether in student status or not.

About The Team

With 75 years in the financial industry, Hilltop Securities’ Public Finance department ranks second in municipal advisories nationwide. Our team of over 200 professionals develops over 1,100 financings each year on average. As part of this team, you’ll support public entities’ financing efforts across sectors such as toll roads, airports, hotels, higher education, healthcare, and public-private partnerships. You’ll analyze and structure deals for clients using industry-specific software packages to conduct financial analysis and present proposals.
