Intern Planning
About the role
This is a PART-TIME planning intern position providing support and assistance to the Urban Planner in administration and enforcement of the City Zoning Code. This role will work on multiple projects either independently or under the guidance of staff members. This position reports directly to the Urban Planner.
Responsibilities
- Provides support to Planning and Zoning Division in administering planning and zoning cases and projects.
- Performs tasks related to special projects assigned by the Urban Planner or Department Director.
- Updates City plans, forms, and guides.
- Files documents and maintains records in accordance with City policies.
- Affords assistance with addressing planning and zoning inquiries.
- Affords assistance in conducting outreach activities with neighborhoods.
- Affords assistance in the preparation of documents related to boards and commissions.
- Affords assistance in the preparation of documents related to land use and development.
- Performs a variety of professional duties to support the Planning and Zoning Division.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with major coursework in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, Geography, Natural Resources, Construction Management or related field.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with GIS is preferred.
- Understanding of the principles and practices of municipal planning.
- Some technical knowledge in demographic and economic analysis, and zoning regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in working with local officials, interested citizens, and non-governmental organizations in the public planning process.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
