Intern - Park Management (Summer)

The Park Management Intern assists the park manager in operating the campground and leading seasonal staff in routine duties, providing essential on-the-job experience in park management. The park is located about 30 minutes from Sioux Falls and 10 minutes from I‑90, attracting diverse user groups with its range of recreation offerings. Customer service, problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making are key skills interns will utilize and develop. Much of the work is outdoors and may require performing duties in adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.

Responsibilities

• Give work direction to campground attendant and maintenance staff
• Clean bathrooms and facilities
• Enforce park rules and regulations
• Provide customer service to campers and park users
• Sell park entrance licenses
• Perform entry‑level administrative processes: bill paying, budgeting, schedule making, processing forms
• Assist campers and park users with issues or complaints
• Assist with maintenance duties such as mowing, string trimming, building maintenance, construction, repairs, and forestry
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must be a current part‑time or full‑time student (minimum 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or the immediately preceding semester
• Must be enrolled at a college, university, or technical institute at time of application
• By the start of the internship, must have completed one year (nine months) of chosen program
• Preference may be given to applicants with junior/senior standing, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions

Pay

Minimum salary: $20.82 per hour

Schedule

Night and weekend shifts are expected.
