Position Summary

The Intern, Manufacturing Engineering will learn to implement manufacturing processes for new and existing product designs and provide production floor support. The intern will work in a team environment with the support of full-time Manufacturing Engineers. Emphasis will be placed on CNC machining and assembly of precision firearm components utilizing clearly defined technical drawings and interchangeable parts.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Learn to plan and design manufacturing processes.
  • Learn to implement manufacturing processes for new and existing firearm product designs while providing budgetary estimates for equipment, tools, gages, and production rates.
  • Use project management techniques to procure tooling and equipment for new products to meet launch timelines and cost targets.
  • Evaluate and improve product designs for Manufacturability while applying GD&T and dimensional stack-ups.
  • Provide production floor support to maintain output and quality for technical systems and manufacturing processes including:
    • High volume CNC machining
    • Machine and Tool Design
    • Assembly
    • Metal finishing
    • Automation
  • Originate and develop new systems and processes and implement into full production.
  • Debug and runoff new capital equipment in order to meet plant goals for quality, throughput, and cost.
  • Recommend and implement alterations and enhancements to improve quality of products, and/or procedures, and the output and quality of manufacturing processes.
  • Resolve quality issues related to product and processes using statistical methods.
  • Provides consultation on problem-solving teams and complete assigned tasks per agreed-upon timelines.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.

Education/Experience & Skills

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS or similar CAD system.
  • Good working knowledge of materials and heat-treating processes.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Must be organized, able to work in a team, plan, and execute multiple projects.
  • Written and verbal communication of complicated subjects is required.
  • Must be able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Must have strong analytical skills, basic manufacturing process knowledge, and basic project management skills.

Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
