About the Role

This internship role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a manufacturing environment, supporting and promoting career goals through interaction with Industrial Engineering professionals. Interns participate in professional activities at the Volvo New River Valley Plant by working on practical, innovative, and important projects. The internship offers structured learning experiences where interns collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering professionals on projects within their selected organization, integrating knowledge and skills in a mutually beneficial way.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementation of workplace organization and standardized work at each station.
  • Implement lean manufacturing practices on the shop floor.
  • Review current labor standards and identify ways to improve labor utilization by eliminating waste or non-value-added work.
  • Participate in training and development to support team deliverables.

  • Attention to Detail: Monitor adherence to standards and actively check for accuracy of data before passing it on.
  • Communication: Listen effectively, transmit information accurately and understandably, and actively seek feedback non-defensively.
  • Flexibility: Perform a wide range of tasks, respond to changes in direction and priorities, and accept new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments.
  • Dependability/Reliability: Follow through on commitments, produce timely work to promote a higher standard, and contribute to getting the job done.
  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering at an accredited school.
  • Completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75.

Pay

The hourly range for this internship is $17.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate is determined by factors including geographic location, academic classification, and degree-seeking area of study. Pay equity and internal equity of current team members are also considered in the final offer.
