Intern - Fixed Income Capital Markets

About the Role

Hilltop Securities Inc. is looking for qualified students to join our Fixed Income Capital Markets team as a Summer Intern. This individual will work closely with our Fixed Income team to gain hands-on experience in the profession while assisting with several key initiatives across the company. They will develop entry-level experience in the financial services industry, including development and delivery of initiatives, and effective practices.

Our Summer 2027 Internship Program is an in-person experience lasting from May 27, 2027 to July 30, 2027, with opportunities located in downtown Dallas at our HTS Tower location and throughout the country at various branch locations.

Professional Development Objectives

Experience on a full-service trading desk – this individual will learn about products traded including corporate bonds, CDs, agencies, and treasuries. This individual will also work on the taxable fixed income trading desk with Traders.

Responsibilities

• Experience on a full-service sales and trading desk – learn about products traded including treasury, agency, corporate, municipal, and mortgage-backed bonds
• Work on the taxable fixed income trading desk with Traders and Assistants on various projects using Bloomberg, Excel, and firm platforms
• Work directly with Traders and Sales team
• Learn desk technique and strategy
• Work directly with the Strategies team to support sales and trading
• Assist with the development of fixed income analytical tools and reporting
• Learn and assist in the streamlining of daily tasks and processes

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Rising Senior pursuing business, finance, economics, or related field is required; computer science a plus
• Some experience (0–1 year) is preferred but not required
• Computer hardware, operating system (Windows), and strong software/application (MS Office, Outlook, Excel, etc.) knowledge and skills
• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
• Must possess a strong attention to detail
• Proven self-starter who can initiate tasks and follow up to completion
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills
• Desire to learn about career opportunities in the financial services industry
• Candidate MUST have authorization to work for any employer in the US without requiring sponsorship, whether in student status or not

About the Team

HilltopSecurities' Fixed Income department has over 2,000 Tier I institutional and middle market clients in all 50 states. We focus on three classes of fixed income investments—municipal, taxable, and securitized products. We are able to access a wide range of investment products for our clients, such as GSE agencies, commercial paper, CDs, CMOs, municipals, and corporate and mortgage-backed municipal securities. Our total balance sheet for all products reaches $1 billion, thanks to our more than 100 sales and trading professionals across the country, each of whom provide keen financial guidance. Our department participates in syndication and primary issuance, as well as three types of sales and trading—fixed income, securitized products, and investment grade and high yield. Our capabilities also include supporting the primary issuance of negotiated and competitive securities, HFA pooled securities, and state HFA CMOs.
