About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support domestic violence community outreach and education efforts through prevention education in DuPage County and surrounding area schools.
  • Aid in tabling and other community events with local organizations.
  • Learn to promote the Bathroom Poster project and other outreach efforts.
  • Create educational social media content.
  • Provide support for 40hr domestic violence training.
  • Support internal and external trainings facilitated by the Community Outreach and Education team.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of MFS programs and community-based resources.
  • Facilitate linkages with services both within MFS and in the community.
  • Attend any mandatory group supervision and program/agency meetings.
  • Complete paperwork in a timely manner, including Community Engagement Logs and other documentation tools specific to the program.
  • Remain cognizant of current developments in the field of domestic violence.
  • Participate in appropriate workshops, conferences, etc. to enhance professional development and understanding of issues in the field.
  • Establish and maintain contact with local agencies, organizations, and partnering sites as appropriate; effectively and professionally represent Metropolitan Family Services and the domestic violence program in the community.
  • Perform other duties specific to the needs of the particular site or program where this position is based.

Qualifications

  • Intern in a bachelor-level education, public health, psychology, sociology, or criminal justice program preferred.
  • No clinical needs for internship.

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfactorily pass all relevant screening and criminal background checks.
  • Must have access to a vehicle, proof of insurance, and a valid driver's license to perform essential functions, required.

Physical Demands

  • Sit and stand for sustained periods of time.
  • Frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and operate objects or controls.
  • Occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
