Intern/Co-op - HES&S Environmental (Summer 2027)
Overview
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) offers internship and co‑op opportunities to high‑performing college students who want meaningful hands‑on experiences in their fields of study. Interns and co‑ops work side‑by‑side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams. Environmental interns/co‑ops support all areas of the business, including Refining; Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics; and Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services. Opportunities are available for training in various Health, Environmental, Safety & Security (HES&S) subject areas.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and/or develop company environmental policies and guidelines; develop methods and procedures for implementation and conformance.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance in organizing and establishing programs and procedures, including budget inputs; monitor compliance and report recommendations.
- Design and/or review engineering designs and cost estimates for environmental equipment/systems; determine specifications and recommend equipment.
- Identify and investigate current and developing environmental problems, determine causes, initiate preventive steps, and communicate recommendations to senior management.
- Stay current on environmental legislation, regulatory actions, and standards; assist with impact assessments, submit reports, and obtain permits.
- Develop environmental information, manuals, training material and programs; inform employees of policies and conduct training sessions.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s program for the duration of the internship.
- Strong academic performance.
- Available to work on‑site 40 hours per week.
- Ability to safely ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs or ladders and lift or carry items up to 50 lb.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for work‑related travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
- Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.
Pay
Minimum $24.09 per hour – Maximum $43.23 per hour.
