Intern/Co-op - Commercial (Fall 2027)

Responsibilities
As an MPC Commercial intern, you could be placed within one of the departments below. Job shadowing and volunteer opportunities are available during internships. Some travel may be required in each of these roles.

Scheduling:
- Schedule the delivery of light products, feedstocks, and biofuels by pipeline or waterborne transportation to third-party and company locations to meet customer demand (sales forecast).
- Coordinate pipeline, barge, and/or tanker movements for appropriate timing, batch size, and sequence of product shipments to optimize supply while minimizing transportation costs and ensuring quality.
- Monitor inventories at terminals and refineries daily and adjust shipping schedules to avoid shortages and excess working capital.
- Develop improved scheduling methods to efficiently utilize company resources, optimize inventory levels, and minimize transportation costs.
- Coordinate communications between terminals, Commercial, Exchange, and Product Quality regarding any inventory or operational issues.

Marketing:
- Corporate Office-based interns:
- Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscapes to identify growth opportunities.
- Gather and interpret data, create reports, and assist in developing marketing strategies and campaigns.
- Gain exposure to various parts of the business such as Product Quality, Governmental Affairs, Business Development, Terminal, Transport & Rail.
- Field-based interns:
- Spend most of their time in the field learning the responsibilities of a Territory Manager.
- Travel to customer offices or dealer gasoline locations with a Territory Manager, assist in prospecting for new customers, and work on projects/studies relating to station financials and operations.
- Gain exposure to different components of the Commercial organization and other corporate components such as Product Quality, Governmental Affairs, Business Development, Terminal, Transport & Rail.

- Corporate Office-based interns:

Analytics:
- Support data-driven initiatives by collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data to uncover trends and generate actionable insights.
- Assist in creating reports and dashboards, conducting preliminary data analysis, and supporting ongoing data-related projects.
- Gain hands-on experience in data analysis and visualization while contributing to real-world business decisions.
- Potential groups/commodities supported: Data Analytics & Strategy (DAS), Prediction & Optimization, Commercial Risk, Pricing, Renewables, Liquified Petroleum Gas exports, Pet Coke/Sulfur, Natural Gas Liquids (NGL), and Petrochemicals.

Coordinating:
- Assist in managing and streamlining operational and project-related tasks.
- Support coordination efforts across departments, ensuring smooth communication and efficient project execution.
- Schedule meetings, track project progress, prepare reports, and assist with administrative tasks.
Desired major and/or minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Business Analytics, or other related disciplines.

Systems Support:
- Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting Commercial systems and applications.
- Serve as a liaison between the Commercial organization and IT regarding application enhancements, bug fixes, upgrade timing, lifecycle management, new features, and overall system usability.
- Leverage tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Alteryx to provide end-users with better tools, access to data, and an improved user experience.

Qualifications
- Strong academic performance
- Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
- Concurrent enrollment in a bachelor's degree (or higher) seeking program for the duration of the experience
- Military experience a plus
- Must be able to provide reliable transportation to and from place of work
- Availability to work 40 hours per week
Pay
MIN - $20.19 per hour / MAX - $25.24 per hour
