About the role
The Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, is seeking a reliable and organized student intern to support Dr. Maya Balakrishnan's research mission. The team investigates behavioral patterns and disease determinants among patients with chronic liver disease. This part-time position (16 hours/week) offers growth opportunities and is ideal for students interested in psychology, social sciences, public health, or medicine as a long-term career.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and consent patients into studies, including reviewing charts, screening patients, and educating them about studies.
- Manage data collection (surveys, interviews), entry, and storage.
- Assist with research project discussion, planning, data recording, and presentation.
- Conduct literature reviews.
- Support qualitative research by conducting, transcribing, and analyzing qualitative interviews.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education Objectives
- Learn basic principles of clinical research.
- Learn how to recruit and enroll participants into clinical research studies.
- Develop data management skills.
- Gain exposure to qualitative research.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school, or a higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of the first two years of undergraduate studies.
- Spanish fluency (both written and spoken).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel.
Schedule
Part-time, 16 hours per week.
