Part-Time Intern
This part-time intern position is available to work with Dr. Kelly Dorgan at The University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, TX, starting in September 2026. Research in the lab integrates ecology, biomechanics (including engineering theory and methods), and invertebrate behavior, morphology, and physiology with engineering theory and methods, including development of new instrumentation. This position is intended for a student looking to gain research experience by helping with various tasks in the lab.
Our interdisciplinary approach to science benefits from a lab group with varied perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. Candidates with strong backgrounds in biology or marine science who also have expertise in other sciences (math, physics/engineering, geology, etc.), creative writing or arts, or technical skills (workshop, electronics, etc.) are especially encouraged to apply.

About the Role
To gain research experience by helping with various tasks in the lab.
Responsibilities
- Sediment sample processing
- Infauna sample sorting (under a microscope)
- Field work to collect infauna and sediments
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Interest in marine science
Working Conditions
- May work in all weather conditions
- May work in remote marine or estuarine field sites, under especially hot conditions
- May work around standard office conditions
- May work around chemicals
- May work around electrical and mechanical hazards
Pay
$14+/hr, depending on qualifications
Schedule
- Weekly scheduled hours: 20
- Expected duration: August 16, 2026 – December 31, 2026
