Job Summary

The Academic Policy Intern for the Department of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Equity will work with the Senior Vice President on topics related to higher education policy, Massachusetts general law, UMass trustee policies, federal higher education policy, as well as summarizing and synthesizing current executive orders, memoranda, and proclamations from the federal government that impact higher education and UMass. Specifically, the candidate will develop executive summaries, presentations, memos, and other educational and information materials that advance the use of artificial intelligence to conduct in-depth research, gather intelligence, and synthesize information on the topics mentioned above and the five UMass campuses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current UMass student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study.
  • GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • Creative, eager to learn, motivated, and willing to take the initiative on assigned projects/tasks.
  • Reliable and detail-oriented with a strong ability to multitask, stay organized, and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and possess good follow-up skills.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when interacting with staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Working Conditions

Hybrid work environment. Primarily located at the UMass President’s Office located at One Beacon Street, Boston, MA with remote work.
