About the Role

WSP is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Earth & Environment team in Indianapolis, IN; Fort Wayne, IN; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; or Valparaiso, IN. This opportunity involves contributing to technically challenging site investigation and remediation projects for energy sector clients in northern Indiana. Responsibilities

  • Perform approximately 70% field work and travel, including overnight stays (weeks at a time or a few days per week).
  • Conduct environmental sampling (surface water, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) and oversee subcontractors (e.g., drillers).
  • Complete detailed field notes and documentation to accurately capture field activities and observations.
  • Collaborate in a team environment and communicate effectively with staff, management, clients, regulators, and on-site personnel.
  • Assist with project planning and coordination with laboratories, drillers, and equipment vendors.
  • Work at project sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environmental contamination.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in environmental sampling, site investigation, or remediation.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
  • Experience in site investigations required.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Flexible to work outside normal business hours, including overtime and overnight stays.
  • Ability to apply analytical and scientific thinking to define and solve problems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, follow instructions, and learn new skills.
  • Physical ability to remain on feet for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and pass a HAZWOPER physical (including wearing a tight-fitting respirator).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using and maintaining field equipment (e.g., groundwater pumps, field meters).
  • Regulatory experience in Indiana and Michigan.

Pay

Expected salary range (all locations): $74,100 – $92,600. The final offer may vary based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
