Stantec’s Mining Team is seeking qualified candidates for an Intermediate Level Hydrogeologist or Geochemist. This position reports to an office in Salt Lake City, Denver, or Phoenix; location is flexible.

About the role

The primary focus of this position is to support geochemistry studies for regional and international mining industry clients. The individual will engage in complex projects related to acid rock drainage, metal leaching, mineral precipitation, pit lake chemistry, water-rock interactions, and reclamation/remediation. Working with a senior geochemist, the successful candidate will support the evaluation of geochemical characteristics of groundwater and develop geochemical models, while collaborating with the existing geoscience team on international mining business line projects. Travel may be required, including visits to remote sites.

Responsibilities

  • Experience in groundwater chemistry evaluations critical to mining, environmental, or water-resource programs.
  • Support complex geochemical and hydrogeological modeling efforts using software such as PHREEQC, MINTEQ, Geochemist’s Workbench, GoldSim, Leapfrog, database management, GIS, and related tools.
  • Strong communication and collaborative working relationships with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional organizational, technical, written, and oral communication skills with keen attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a M.S. in geochemistry, hydrogeology, geology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in aqueous geochemistry.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Professional license (PG) or the ability to obtain one is preferred.

Pay

Annual pay range: $80,300 – $116,500. Final compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Part-time compensation is pro-rated based on agreed working hours per week.
