JOB PURPOSE
The Geochemist is responsible for delivering expert geochemical assessments and interpretative services to support exploration, production, and environmental projects. This role covers the full lifecycle—from sample collection protocols and analytical planning to quality control, data interpretation, and client reporting. The Geochemist will work closely with internal laboratory teams, external clients, and industry professionals to ensure high-quality, technically robust results are delivered on time.

- Follow all QHSSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) and Compliance policies and procedures and complete training by using all systems as defined by Stratum.
- Create opportunities for improvement, report and assist in investigating incidents of non-conformities, and operateive issues.
- Submit STAR (See, Think, Act, And Report) cards and report any risks identified on the job.
- Participation in meetings and general activities created to help prevent risks is required.
- Stop the job and assess whether the conditions are safe to continue work if applicable.
- Complete all required QHSSE and Compliance reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical & Analytical:
- Design and implement protocols for sample collection, preparation, and geochemical analysis.
- Perform advanced interpretation of geochemical, isotopic, and related data to support oil, gas, and environmental projects.
- Generate high-quality technical reports, interpretive presentations, and peer-reviewed papers.
- Provide expert consultation to clients on project design, problem-solving, and data integration.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of geochemical techniques, instrumentation, and industry best practices.
- Project & Client Management:
- Manage, schedule, coordinate, and track analytical projects from inception to completion.
- Communicate effectively with clients to clarify requirements, present findings, and advise on implications.
- Participate in technical marketing efforts, including conference presentations and collaborative research.
- Training & Knowledge Sharing:
- Deliver training and short courses on geochemistry to client groups and internal staff.
- Mentor junior scientists and support knowledge transfer within the organization.
Skills and Knowledge
- Essential:
- Advanced expertise in petroleum system geochemistry, isotope geochemistry, and/or groundwater geochemistry.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
- Able to interpret complex data and communicate results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong customer service focus and interpersonal skills.
- Competence in relevant software for data analysis and report preparation.
- Preferred:
- Knowledge of gas and water geochemistry related to oil/gas, waste, and agricultural industries.
- Experience integrating geochemical data with geologic and hydrologic datasets.
- Familiarity with advanced laboratory instrumentation and analytical workflows.
Minimum Qualifications
- Essential:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Geochemistry, Geology, or related Earth Sciences field.
- Experience in geochemical analysis, interpretation, and consulting within the oil & gas or groundwater related industries.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for projects, conferences, and client meetings.
- Preferred:
- Record of published technical papers or conference presentations.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including geologists, engineers, and technical sales.
