Intermediate Consultant - Commissioning

About the Role

WSP USA, an award-winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, seeks an Intermediate Consultant - Commissioning for our West Offices, including Seattle, WA. We work closely with architects and owners on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. Our engineers work on high-quality, high-profile, national and international projects.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the senior commissioning lead for the West region and will have opportunities for growth, including early participation in business development activities.

Responsibilities

• Execute standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction as outlined in ASHRAE Guidelines.
• Perform engineering design reviews for commissioning-related activities.
• Support the attainment of building sustainability certifications such as LEED, Energy Star, and others.
• Develop scopes of work for a variety of building components, including mechanical, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting, and specialty systems (e.g., fire alarm, security, nurse call, renewable energy systems, and building control systems).
• Conduct meetings, coordinate schedules, and prepare reports with proficient communication and organization skills.
• Apply self-stewardship and honor in your work to make an impact in the built environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant years of related field experience in the industry.
• 1-3 years of relevant post-education experience in a building or systems commissioning discipline.
• Familiarity with building commissioning principles, practices, processes, design/build, and their application to project work-related issues.
• Familiarity with building planning, design, installation management, including renovation and new design.
• Knowledge of smart building design, MEP construction systems, or building control systems.
• Understanding of relevant building technology/system installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Analytical mindset with sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-driven, coachable, and eager to learn from colleagues and senior commissioning agents.
• Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Experience reading design drawings, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical plans.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements, which may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

• Ability to travel part of the time.
• Strong prioritization skills, follow-through, and self-implemented quality control measures.
• Interest in attaining certifications such as Cx, LEED, and PE.

Pay

Expected salary range (all locations): $84,500 - $105,600. The range reflects the company’s good-faith belief of what it might pay based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity, as well as specific geographic location. WSP reserves the right to adjust compensation and benefits based on circumstances unrelated to protected statuses.
