Intermediate Consultant - Commissioning

About the Role

WSP USA, an award-winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, seeks an Intermediate Consultant - Commissioning for our West Offices. Locations include Seattle, WA; other locations may be considered. We work closely with architects and owners on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. Our engineers work on high-quality, high-profile, national and international projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of building commissioning processes (new, retro, re-commissioning, continuous), energy auditing and building retrofit applications, support for sustainability certification applications, and measurement and verification techniques. This position offers excellent growth opportunities, with many of our senior leaders having started as young engineers in our firm. Initially, you will work under the supervision, training, and guidance of the senior commissioning lead for the West region, with encouragement to participate in business development activities.

Responsibilities

• Execute standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction as outlined in ASHRAE Guidelines.
• Perform engineering design reviews for commissioning-related activities.
• Support the attainment of building sustainability certifications such as LEED, Energy Star, and others.
• Develop scopes of work for a variety of building components, including mechanical, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting, and specialty systems (e.g., fire alarm, security, nurse call, renewable energy systems, and building control systems).
• Conduct meetings, coordinate schedules, and prepare reports using proficient communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrate self-driven initiative to make a professional impact with self-stewardship and honor in your work.
• Travel part of the time as required by project needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant years of related field experience in the industry.
• 1-3 years of relevant post-education experience in a building or systems commissioning discipline.
• Familiarity with building commissioning principles, practices, processes, design/build, and their application to project work-related issues.
• Familiarity with building planning, design, installation management, including renovation and new design.
• Experience with smart building design, MEP construction systems, or building control systems.
• Knowledge of relevant building technology/system installation, construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Coachable, prepared, and driven to learn from colleagues and senior commissioning agents.
• Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Experience reading design drawings, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical plans.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements, which may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Qualifications

• Desire to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in the commissioning trade and advance in a commissioning career.
• Ability to prioritize effectively, demonstrate good follow-through, and implement self-driven quality control measures.
• Interest in attaining certifications such as CxA, LEED, and PE.
• Opportunity to grow into an early commissioning project management role.

Pay

Expected salary (all locations): $84,500 - $105,600. The range reflects the company’s good-faith belief of what it might pay based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity, as well as specific geographic location. WSP reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits or compensation as circumstances dictate.
