Intermediate Accountant

Responsibilities

• Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with STAT and GAAP accounting policies.
• Prepare account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items to ensure timely resolution.
• Explain routine fluctuations in balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Absorb and assist with the preparation of quarterly/annual financial statements.
• Prepare supporting schedules used in internal/external financial reporting.
• Collaborate with various departments to resolve accounting questions and obtain supporting information.
• Absorb and assist with audit requests by preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
• Participate in system implementations, process improvements, and automation initiatives designed to improve accounting efficiency and reporting quality.
• Absorb and assist with special projects and other accounting responsibilities as assigned.
• Responsible for adherence to the company's framework of internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education/experience.
• Approximately 2-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Working knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
• Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and accounting systems.
• Knowledge of STAT accounting principles preferred.

Physical Demands

• Normal office working environment, full time with some flexibility.
• Occasional evening and weekend hours to meet deadlines.
• Occasional travel is required.
• Ability to type / perform data entry.
• Ability to read from a computer screen and paper reports.
• Ability to express ideas and otherwise communicate with the spoken word.

Pay

$75,000 - $80,000
