Interior Sprayer

About the role

Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to join our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Muscatine, Iowa. UTLX is a trusted industry leader, recognized for its regulatory, engineering, and commercial expertise, and is the preferred railcar and services provider for many customers nationwide.

Responsibilities

• Selects coatings following work specifications and prepares equipment for spraying.
• Masks off components such as valves, trucks, couplers, or areas of the surface not to be sprayed.
• Mixes coatings according to specifications and applies the coating to install or repair a section of a coating using airless spray equipment.
• Cleans and maintains spraying equipment.
• Applies decals as required to the tank or hopper car exterior.
• Cleans completed interior coating prior to final inspection.
• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment Test.
• Demonstrated job-related computational skills and ability to read gauges, rulers, and applicable measuring devices.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Strong focus on safety and quality.
• Ability to work any shift, including overtime, in accordance with the union contract.
• Dependable and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

• Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment.
• Rail industry experience.
• Tank car knowledge or experience.

Skills

• Manual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operation.
• Exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spills.

Schedule

Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involving regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions. Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is common. Job requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces. May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 10 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection. On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required.
