Interior Designer (Limited-Term)
About the role
The incumbent provides interior design support to the UGA campus community and the Office of the University Architects for Facilities Planning (OUA).
This role will support the Senior Project Manager Interior Designer to lead OUA’s interior design activities and meet stewardship responsibilities for design excellence, campus image, appropriateness, comfort & durability.
The position involves effective client relations management and will work with OUA Project Managers, external design professionals, and UGA stakeholders on interior finish and furniture selection for a variety of project types including residence halls, classrooms, research laboratories, libraries, office spaces, recreation, and varsity sports, etc.
Responsibilities
- Supports Project Manager Interior Designer on interior design activities.
- Affords assistance to OUA Project Managers with furniture selection, layouts, installation, moves/relocations.
- May involve submitting requisitions to purchase furniture, verifying room dimensions, creating an inventory of existing furniture, scheduling relocation of furniture, documenting relocation of occupants, coordinating relocations with multiple parties, implementing relocations, producing layout drawings, etc.
- Provides interior design concepts for minor studies and proposed renovations.
- Completes administrative tasks related to procuring furniture, installing furniture and documenting receipt of furniture in UGAmart.
- Obtains and reviews quotes from vendors for furniture purchases.
- Discusses the quote with vendor as needed.
- Understands statewide contracts for FF&E.
- Schedules meetings with vendors and manufacturers as needed.
- Works closely with vendors to determine the best solution to meet the needs of the University and project stakeholders within the allotted budget.
- Manages selection, procurement, scheduling and installation of FF&E on small capital projects.
- Manages signage and wayfinding design and installations to meet UGA standards for all projects in OUA office.
- Manages the interiors library including catalogues and finish samples;
- Archives and maintains records of interior building finishes and furnishings.
- Affords assistance in documenting interior design standards and best practices.
- (Track performance of furniture and finishes for inclusion on future projects – also cost, service, etc.)
- Oversees student interns daily; Delegates tasks to interns as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge of furniture sourcing, and vendor resources.
Basic knowledge of ADA and sustainability.
Excellent oral, written and graphic communication skills.
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and results oriented.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Proficiency in all Adobe Creative Suite programs.
Willingness to learn new software technology and processes.
Proficiency with Sketch-Up or other similar modeling and rendering programs.
Familiarity with BlueBeam Revu software.
Possess effective client relations management, ability to work with various teams of stakeholders and design professionals.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make good decisions.
Demonstrated ability to provide high level of customer service.
Experience or knowledge in managing construction projects.
Ability to develop/maintain/analyze programmatic space/utilization data.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience.
Skills

Pay
$55,000.00+
Schedule
Normal work hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Project deadlines may require work outside of the typical work week.
