About the role
ARCO/Murray National Construction is seeking a highly motivated Interior Designer to join our in-house design team. The position is based in our ARCO Chicago or Downers Grove office, focusing on tenant improvement and adaptive re-use projects in various sectors such as entertainment, hospitality, workplace, education, aviation, and industrial.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of interior design, from concept design to development.
- Conduct code research, test fits, and preliminary space plans, including 3D axonometric views.
- Prepare and lead programming and presentation calls with clients.
- Work closely with clients and Project Managers to develop schematic and design development level drawings.
- Conduct code study, zoning, life safety, occupancy, and plumbing requirements.
- Create 3D views, renders, and interior fly-thru videos for clients.
- Cook up design cost with in-house construction PMs to ensure selections are within budget.
- Coordinate design cost with in-house construction PMs to ensure selections are within budget.
- Communicate with MEP and other trades to coordinate design intent and avoid clashes.
- Be a problem solver for all things design-related and assist PMs in bringing the client’s vision to life.
- Organize, plan, and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to accomplish desired results.
- Commit to quality by self-reviewing work and ensuring it meets professional and team standards.
- Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and other associates, while maintaining a constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
- Help build the team’s capabilities. This could be enhancing Revit families, developing rendering tools, streamlining finish selections… endless possibilities.
Requirements
- Degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Interior Design.
- 8-12 years of professional experience.
- Excellent programming and space planner skills.
- Basic understanding of building code, Chicago code a plus.
- Comfortable presenting to clients.
- Proficient in Revit, Rendering Software (Enscape or Lumion preferred), and Adobe Suite.

Pay
Typical base compensation for the Architectural Designer role is between $90,000 and $120,000. Candidates with extensive experience may exceed this range.
