About the role

Columbia College Chicago hires Adjunct Faculty to teach courses on a part-time basis. Positions are not available every semester and are contingent upon student enrollment and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in disciplines including graphic design, interior architecture, UX/UI, game design, cinema visual effects, game programming, software development, and general education courses in math and science.
  • Translate complex design concepts into clear, accessible lessons.
  • Engage students and effectively convey concepts and critique student work.
  • Work with students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Contribute to a rich educational experience consistent with the college’s mission.

Requirements

  • Required Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Professional experience and expertise in interior design, architecture, or a related field, typically 5+ years.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing professional design work and projects that reflect current industry standards and innovations.
  • Knowledge of current design software, technologies, standards, industry best practices, and sustainable practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Master's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching, lecturing, or mentoring students, either in an academic or professional setting, preferably in higher education.
  • A passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering a learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and professional growth among students.
  • Experience in project-based learning or hands-on teaching methodologies.
  • An understanding of how interior architecture intersects with other disciplines, such as architecture, art history, and environmental psychology.
  • Current NCIDQ certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Passion for design education and a commitment to student learning and development.

Skills

  • Proficiency in design software relevant to the field, such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape, various 3D modeling tools, and similar.

Pay

The entry level compensation rate for teaching one 3-credit course as of Fall 2026 is $5,635.00. Compensation for courses that carry fewer or more than three credits will be prorated down or up accordingly.

Schedule

This is a part-time position.
