This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation for a permanent position within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Southwestern Division (SWD) – Galveston District, located in Galveston, TX.

About the Role

Develops or reviews civil engineering or coastal engineering features of civil works projects, including navigation channels, flood control, environmental restoration, beach erosion control, beach nourishment, spillways, stilling basins, and levees. Provides authoritative advice on designs and during the construction phase of projects. Reviews and appraises projects to ensure conformance with best engineering practices, optimum costs, and feasible construction. Performs independent quality assurance reviews for technical products provided by Branch Engineers. This position is within the General Engineering Section.

Responsibilities

  • Draft geometric designs or specifications for layouts of projects such as levees, navigation locks, floodgates, roads and highways, flood control channels, and parking areas.
  • Validate technical discipline input in the drafting of project scopes, schedules, budgets, plans, specifications, engineering reports, and feasibility studies to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Review construction contract specifications and plans for engineering feasibility and practicality; process modifications to contracts as required.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service prior to appointment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Professional Engineer license/registration (or Professional Architect License or Landscape Architect Registration) in good standing, issued by any U.S. state or territory.
  • Resume must be two pages or less, include start and end dates, and PP-Series-GR for all Federal positions. Resumes exceeding two pages or missing required details will not be considered.
  • Applicants must be prepared to submit college transcripts if requested to support required education.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • This position is eligible for situational telework.
  • A trial or probationary period may be required for external candidates.
