About the role

Join Sweetser as the Intentional Peer Support Specialist, working out of Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, Maine. Applies the tools developed in your own recovery as well as the philosophy and values of Intentional Peer Support to build connections, consider world views, maintain mutuality, and move toward a new way of being within relationships with individuals. The specialist will collaborate, coach, and challenge individuals in viewing life’s challenges as opportunities for growth and change within each person’s recovery process. Employees must complete the CIPSS training in the state of Maine over the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Fully understand and actively implement the three principles and four tasks of Intentional Peer Support.
  • Model relationship building, based on the four tasks of peer support, with participants, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Fully understand and actively implement the Eight Dimensions of Wellness as described by SAMHSA.
  • Model the attributes of respect, trust, sensitivity, and confidentiality to participants, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Provide support and model healthy relationships.
  • Follow best practices and guidelines established by the Peer Support in Emergency Departments program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Lived experience of recovery with mental illness, trauma, or substance use and willingness to self-identify with peers on this basis in the community.
  • Paid or unpaid peer support experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Intentional Peer Support within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of personal recovery.
  • Ability to be "emotionally present"; recognize when you are not, seek support, and communicate this to the assigned manager.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and accept differences in perspective and values.
  • Basic computer skills, including receiving and sending emails and data entry to spreadsheets.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Pay

Hourly rate: $20–$21 per hour, based on certification.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday.
