Integration Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Network Technician with strong experience in configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting carrier-grade network environments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced operational settings, enjoys working directly with network hardware, and has a solid understanding of both legacy and modern transport technologies.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of network equipment including routers, switches, and transport devices.
- Support integration activities across customer and internal networks, ensuring smooth turn-ups and migrations.
- Work with service provider-grade hardware (e.g., CenturyLink, Cox, and similar carriers) beyond basic consumer Wi-Fi routers.
- Execute network diagnostics, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Manage and maintain configurations across Nokia and Cisco routing/switching platforms.
- Support TDM environments including DS1 bandwidth provisioning and Alcatel/Lucent (Terrace) systems.
- Work within IP, MPLS, and Nokia transport environments to ensure reliable service delivery.
- Document network changes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
Technical Environment
- Transport Technologies: TDM, DS1, Alcatel Terrace
- Routing & Switching: Nokia and Cisco platforms
- Network Architectures: IP, MPLS
- Carrier-grade Integrations: CenturyLink, Cox, and similar providers
Requirements
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches.
- Familiarity with console access, command-line interfaces, and network utilities.
- Strong understanding of OSI model layers, routing fundamentals, and operational protocols.
- Ability to interpret and modify network configurations in real time.
- Experience with service provider or enterprise-scale network environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) routing platforms.
- Exposure to MPLS environments and common routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS).
- Background working with TDM circuits and DS1 provisioning.
- Prior experience supporting or integrating with telecom carriers.
Candidate Evaluation
During the interview process, candidates should be prepared to demonstrate practical knowledge of network operations. Sample questions include:
- How do you console into a switch?
- What command would you use to see port status?
- What layer does the router live on within the OSI model?
- What are typical routing protocols used in operations?
- How would you save a configuration on a network device?
These questions help assess your comfort level with real-world troubleshooting, configuration workflows, and foundational networking concepts.
What Success Looks Like
- Quickly adapts to diverse network environments.
- Demonstrates confidence in hands-on configuration and troubleshooting.
- Communicates clearly with internal teams and external carriers.
- Maintains accuracy and consistency in documentation and configuration management.
