Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex integration development and troubleshooting, including API/event-driven patterns, enterprise interfaces, dependency analysis, streaming/event bus support, data flow validation, and integration architecture coordination.
- Arcitect, optimize, and oversee the execution of secure, high-throughput event streaming topologies using Java and Apache Kafka to ensure real-time synchronization and near-zero service disruptions across the Scheduling Event Bus.
- Lead the structural development of complex data fabrics, microservices, message schemas (Avro/JSON), and intelligent event routing frameworks capable of supporting over 300 interconnected enterprise applications.
- Own and validate the generation of comprehensive technical specifications that drive Spec-Driven Workflows, ensuring precise code generation and accelerated, high-quality development cycles via AI-assisted engineering.
- Partner with Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to design robust Infrastructure as Code (IaC), supervise secure containerized infrastructure deployments (Kubernetes/EKS in AWS GovCloud), and implement advanced monitoring and automated circuit-breaking patterns.
- Enforce strict Java coding standards, security baselines, and data governance policies (HIPAA, NIST, Zero Trust) through structural code and architecture reviews. Mentor junior and mid-level integration developers, fostering continuous technical upskilling.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (Master's preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise backend software engineering and integration architecture.
- Deep production-grade expertise in Java development, JVM tuning, and enterprise Java design patterns.
- Advanced production-grade expertise with Apache Kafka, including performance tuning, cluster configuration, partition strategies, and schema management.
- Proven experience developing cloud-native microservices and workflows inside AWS, containerized orchestration systems (Kubernetes/EKS), and multi-tier backend environments.
- Demonstrated experience working in a structured SAFe Agile or enterprise Product Line Management environment.
- Strong proficiency in building and maintaining enterprise-scale REST/gRPC APIs, secure data fabrics, and relational/non-relational database ecosystems.
- Outstanding leadership, code quality enforcement, and technical architecture writing capabilities.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust or Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting large-scale cloud modernization programs for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), or highly regulated healthcare networks.
- Development experience with or architectural understanding of enterprise Low-Code/No-Code (LCNC) environments, particularly Appian.
- Familiarity with federal compliance structures (FISMA, RMF lifecycles, ATO controls, and Zero Trust security guidelines).
- Industry-relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional Java SE, Confluent Certified Developer/Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SAFe Agilist).
