Carnegie Mellon University’s Integrated Innovation for Large-Scale Problems course is looking for a Teaching Assistant (TA) to support the instructor for the duration of the Fall 2026 semester. Previous students of this course are preferred, but persons who have recent industry experience in software development and project management (minimum 4 years) can be considered. This is an hourly paid position through CMU. Current students and alumni are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the instructor in providing an effective learning experience for students enrolled in the course.
  • Attend all class meetings for one section each week, for the full duration of the semester.
  • Manage course activity online in Canvas, including but not limited to supervising student submissions, helping to ensure appropriate structure, format, and best practices are followed in all submitted deliverables.
  • Review student drafts and final assignments, providing actionable, constructive feedback, notes, scores, and corrections as appropriate.
  • Hold office hours for 90 minutes per week to assist students as needed.
  • Clarify instructions for assignments to students, as needed, through office hours or email, or via Canvas discussion forums.
  • Meet with students and teams, as requested by the instructor, for the purpose of additional explanation and guidance on the assigned work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with an interest in a reflective team process.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite tools.
  • An eye for detail, respectful punctuality, and an interest in teaching.
  • Successful background check.
  • Previous enrollment in the Integrated Innovation for Large-Scale Problems course preferred, or minimum 4 years of recent industry experience in software development and project management.
