About the role
The Child Intake Clinician provides initial assessments and evaluations for members and families seeking services. This includes conducting intake assessments, developing diagnoses, and creating person/family centered treatment plans.
Responsibilities
- Provides initial assessments and evaluations to clients who present for services.
- Conducts intake assessments by gathering information, completing various assessment tools, and writing comprehensive assessments.
- Gathers required clinical and demographic data from the patient.
- Maintains up-to-date client records including written evaluations, treatment plans, quarterly reviews, termination summaries, and progress notes.
- Authorizes medically necessary services for all clients and assigns appropriate levels of care.
- Collaborates with treatment team staff for admissions and provides supporting documentation.
- Provides clinical assessments, case assignments, and comprehensive outpatient counseling to individuals in need of mental health services.
- Makes referrals based on assessments to the most appropriate programs and agencies.
- Works closely with clients in the decision-making process and helps them understand the benefits of accessing appropriate levels of care.
- Completes timely and accurate documentation of services in the medical record.
- Provides crisis intervention as needed by assessing risk, developing safety plans, reporting abuse or neglect, and coordinating hospitalization or other emergencies.
- Follows the Open Access model and provides brief therapeutic interventions.
- Collaborates with team members, community partners, and service organizations to coordinate care.
- Completes timely and accurate documentation of services in the medical record.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree from a recognized college or university in the Human Services, the Social Services, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of professional clinical experience in a behavioral healthcare or mental health setting, preferred.
- At least two (2) years of clinical experience working with children and/or youth preferred.
- MichiCANs certification preferred, or willingness to complete the training and become certified.
- A Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure: LMSW, LMHC, LPC, LLP, or PhD.
- A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.
Benefits
This position will work in the DWIHN Outpatient Clinic. This position will be required to work with persons who may suffer from mental health or substance use challenges. DOC has extended hours 8-8 Monday-Friday. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.
