Intake Specialist-Caminos Program

About the Role

Ensure the wellness of youth and families through supportive, direct childcare services and maintaining a safe, secure, and calm environment. The Intake Specialist acts as a mentor, coach, and support to direct care staff, working closely with Program Administrators and Unit Supervisors to prepare for and complete intake procedures for all youth new to the program. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.

Responsibilities

• Model and act in accordance with Everstand's core values, demonstrating trauma-informed leadership.
• Serve as the designated point of contact for new intakes, including:
  • Preparing the unit to receive new intakes.
  • Greeting new intakes and providing a warm welcome.
  • Processing admissions in the UC portal and securing belongings for inventory.
• Assist with resident discharges by completing required documentation, reviewing it with residents, and processing discharges in the UC portal.
• Implement individualized resident programming, safety, and guidance plans, ensuring completion of all related documentation.
• Coach and mentor direct care staff to engage in supportive conversations with youth, fostering a positive and consistent support system for recovery from complex trauma.
• Utilize and mentor staff in specialized training to prevent and support youth exhibiting challenging behaviors, including:
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
  • Trauma-Informed Care / National Traumatic Stress Network modules.
  • Integrated Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Harassment concepts.
• Support the establishment of a safe, secure, and calm environment by assisting direct care staff with unit routines, schedules, and systems for cleanliness, supplies, and recreation.
• Collaborate with the care team to identify and support the health, medical, educational, and spiritual needs of youth, creating a trauma-sensitive milieu.
• Develop interventions to avoid seclusion or restraint, teaching youth how to manage difficult situations.
• Participate in the development and facilitation of weekly life skills and acculturation groups in collaboration with the unit supervisor and therapist.
• Support direct care staff in understanding the value of life skills and acculturation groups, encouraging their participation in identifying group topics.
• Demonstrate understanding of how the Caminos Program integrates with other agency programs to support youth and care team members.
• Teach and maintain an environment that supports the acquisition of life skills, including health, hygiene, and money management.
• Help direct care staff understand the importance of setting limits and offering fair consequences for unsafe behavior to establish a therapeutic environment.
• Administer medication according to physician and/or nurse’s orders and document it in the medication administration record (MAR).
• Demonstrate effective communication and leadership to mentor direct care staff and support Everstand’s goal of "teamwork always."
• Maintain knowledge of Everstand and Office of Refugee Resettlement policies and procedures related to the care of Unaccompanied Children.
• Ensure appropriate staff support for the campus while minimizing overtime.
• Provide safe transportation in agency vehicles for residents to scheduled appointments.
• Provide mandatory on-call coverage.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalency plus 3 years of experience working with youth in a social service setting.
• Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing both Spanish and English.
• Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; computer literacy.
• Ability to develop effective behavioral interventions using sound, objective decision-making.
• Ability to organize staffing and therapeutic programming.
• Ability to engage children in positive decision-making and supervise staff effectively.
• Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Windows 10 and 365 Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Proven time management, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to problem-solve, work independently, and maintain an electronic calendar (Outlook).
• Ability to pass TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) and CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to pass CPS/UII background check, tuberculosis screening (where applicable), work-readiness physical, federal and state fingerprinting background check, and drug screen.
• Ability to pass a federal suitability determination investigation and complete all ORR-mandated trainings, including trauma-informed care, cultural competency, PSA standards, mandatory reporting, and confidentiality protections.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of experience working with youth in a social service setting.

Schedule

• Sunday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Monday – Wednesday: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
• This position requires long hours, weekend work, and mandatory on-call coverage. It is essential during snow emergencies and is not eligible for a flex schedule.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional office environment with standard office equipment. It may involve exposure to challenging behaviors from youth, including physical agitation, violence, or emotional outbursts.

Physical Demands

• Occasional standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Occasional lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
