Facility: Remote MI (Central Time) – fully remote position based in Michigan.
About the role
Demonstrates a broad understanding of the DME industry, including the intake process, documentation, billing, compliance, and performance management. Provides first-line communication with patients, referral sources, and clinicians to facilitate ordering and delivery of durable medical equipment (DME) products, supplies, and services. Ensures all patient information is processed timely and accurately to enhance patient satisfaction and optimize revenue.
Responsibilities
- Receive inquiries and orders by telephone, fax, and email.
- Gather all necessary documentation as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures, and compliance programs.
- Communicate with Equip clinical staff and referral sources regarding deficiencies in documentation to meet coverage criteria for ordered equipment and supplies.
- Request needed documentation via email, in-basket messaging, phone calls, or other agreed-upon methods.
- Resolve customer concerns, questions, and complaints regarding sales orders or refer them to Equip clinical staff if unable to resolve.
- Anticipate patient needs for timely setup of equipment or delivery of supplies and respond quickly to complete the intake process.
- Create new patient accounts in the Equip computer system, accurately entering demographic information, ordering physician, and insurance details.
- Obtain needed medical records to support physician orders, verify insurance, obtain and log prior authorizations and prescriptions, and initiate an ABN as needed.
- Notate all intake information in the Equip patient account and notify clinical staff when intake is complete.
- Maintain a working knowledge of billing, documentation, and reimbursement guidelines for Medicare, Medicaid, other third-party, and contracted payers.
- Depending on department, may set up patient appointments and make follow-up calls to patients.
- Complete tasks with minimum supervision, exercising independent judgment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of computer functions and basic Microsoft Office applications.
- Detail-oriented with excellent documentation skills and the ability to follow through to completion.
- Basic knowledge of the medical field; prior experience in home medical equipment is helpful.

Pay
$16.00 - $25.50 per hour.
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- 8-hour day shifts.
