INTAKE COUNSELOR (DEGREED) - FLEX/PRN (WEEKEND DAYS)

About the Role

Hartgrove Behavioral Health System is a 160-bed leading psychiatric hospital dedicated to providing quality behavioral health services for its diverse population of children, adolescents, and adults. As the flagship behavioral health facility within Universal Health Services, Inc., Hartgrove Hospital offers state-of-the-art programs and advanced technologies in the field. The hospital provides a compassionate, therapeutic environment with a continuum of specialty programs across inpatient, partial, and outpatient services.

Responsibilities

• Respond to inquiry calls regarding services and provide appropriate information and referrals.
• Oversee the admission process, including assessing appropriateness of admission, completing required paperwork, pre-certifications, and benefit verifications.
• Coordinate with physicians, social workers, U.R. coordinators, and the treatment team.
• Obtain billing and insurance information, assign units/programs, and explain hospital programs and services.
• Consider growth and development needs specific to the age and population served.
• Provide accurate information to hospital administration and physicians regarding admissions, referrals, and discharges.
• Conduct tours of the hospital and train staff on admission processes, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with laws, codes, rules, and regulations pertaining to psychiatric admissions.
• Maintain data and records related to intake and admission, including discharges, bed availability, and admission times.
• Conduct initial assessments covering prior treatment history, medications, health screen, family dynamics, and risk factors.
• Utilize department computer systems and maintain a safe, sanitary environment.
• Perform level-of-care assessments as needed.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work required.
• Two years of psychiatric experience preferred.
• Licensure or eligibility for licensure preferred.
• Working knowledge of Illinois Confidentiality Act, Illinois Mental Health Code, EMTALA, and ILPA progress.
• Detailed understanding of psychiatric criteria for various levels of care and DSM-IV criteria.
• Computer training/experience, crisis intervention, risk assessment, customer service, and leadership skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Works in the Emergency Services area, inpatient units, and other hospital areas.
• Hazards include exposure to communicable diseases and risks associated with managing psychiatric patients.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Physical agility to manage patients, including pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping.
