Insurance Verification Specialist I - Kelsey Seybold Clinic - Pearland - Hybrid
About the Role
Join Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, part of the Optum family of businesses, and work with one of the nation's leading health care organizations at one of our 40+ locations throughout Houston. As a multi-specialty clinic, we offer care from more than 900 medical providers in 65 medical specialties. This role involves verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, determining insurance filing order, and preparing patient pre-treatment cost-share estimates based on service schedules, contracted plan reimbursement allowances, benefits, and out-of-pocket thresholds.
Responsibilities
- Accurately enter or update patient demographics, insurance coverage, effective and termination dates, and filing order in the Practice Management System.
- Communicate with patients by phone or electronically to explain coverage and benefits, pre-treatment cost estimates, and patient financial liability; advise of non-coverage, take payments, and set up payment plans following department policies.
- Exhibit exceptional customer service skills to provide patients with a positive experience.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED from an accredited program.
- 1+ years in a similar field involving insurance verification, patient accounts, or medical office functions; OR 6+ months of similar experience with an Associate or higher degree or completion of a Medical Billing & Coding Course; OR 6+ months of registration, scheduling, or front desk experience at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.
- Alpha/Numeric forms entry ability.
- Ability to add and subtract 4-digit numbers and apply percentages and discounts.
- Basic knowledge of health insurance.
- Proficiency in MS Office, computer skills, and internet use; must demonstrate fast and accurate computer and typing skills.
- Proven excellent customer service, verbal, and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a medical office environment handling insurance verification with knowledge of a wide range of insurance products.
- Kelsey-Seybold Clinic experience.
- Epic experience.
- Knowledge of insurance concepts and theory.
- High PC proficiency.
- Proven excellent communication skills.

Pay
The hourly pay for this role ranges from $16 to $29 per hour based on full-time employment, depending on several factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
