Insurance Specialist

The Insurance Specialist at Saline Memorial Hospital supports patients and community members interfacing with the hospital’s facilities. This role drives quality, scalability, and significant impact in the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

• Ensures timely pre-certification of surgeries and procedures for managed care companies
• Notifies physician offices and centralized scheduling if pre-certification is not obtained in time
• Communicates with insurance payers regarding CPT code discrepancies or changes
• Verifies patient insurance coverage and obtains benefits
• Maintains current knowledge of outpatient imaging policies and procedures
• Creates and explains patient liability estimates for scheduled procedures
• Contacts patient or physician offices when insurance information is invalid
• Performs registration functions as needed
• Works closely with physician offices and departments to obtain clinical information

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two years of college or medical office specialist education preferred
• One year experience with obtaining and verifying pre-certifications with various insurance companies required

Qualifications

• Required skills: critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, stress management, multi-tasking, working knowledge of managed care and third party payors
