Insurance Defense Trial Attorney - Subrogation

Job Summary

This position is responsible for representing clients in all areas of subrogation practice. Manages all phases of cases from intake to resolution. Essential Job Functions include litigating subrogation cases of high complexity and/or exposure, preparing pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs, attending hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and/or trials, informing leadership of case handling opportunities and challenges, consulting with the Claims Department on legal aspects of files and jurisdictional issues, performing other tasks to ensure efficient case management, handling second chair trials, and providing support to senior attorneys.

Essential Job Functions

• Litigates subrogation cases of high complexity and/or exposure and performs duties necessary from intake to trial and/or settlement.
• Prepares pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
• Attends hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and/or trials.
• Informs leadership of case handling opportunities and challenges encountered.
• Consults with the Claims Department on the legal aspects of files and jurisdictional issues.
• Performs other tasks or duties to ensure efficient case management.
• May handle second chair trials and handle trials in cases with moderate complexity and/or exposure.
• Provides support to senior attorneys in cases of greater complexity and/or exposure and receives developmental assignments of matters that are of high complexity and/or exposure.

Physical Actions

• Frequently sits or stands for prolonged periods of time, up to a full shift.
• Occasionally moves about the workplace including navigating stairs, ramps, and level or uneven surfaces.
• Occasionally moves, pushes, pulls, lifts, carries, and places objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Frequently uses shoulders, arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate equipment, tools, and objects necessary to perform job duties.
• Frequently performs fine motor tasks such as typing, mousing, or writing, up to a full shift.
• Occasionally performs movements such as bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead or below the knees.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience Requirements

• Three years of insurance defense litigation and/or personal/bodily injury experience preferred.
• Second chair trial experience strongly preferred.
• Multistate jurisdictional practice preferred.

Special Skill Requirement

• Public speaking.
• Ability to function and handle high case loads in adversarial or confrontational situations.
• Driving.
