About the role
Austin Industrial provides premier self-perform maintenance, construction, and soft craft service to leading industrial companies across the U.S. This Foreman position supervises and coordinates skilled and unskilled workers on various construction projects, including highway structures, underground utilities, concrete paving, and related work. The role focuses on scheduling work safely, adhering to plans and specifications, and meeting cost objectives while maintaining strong relationships with inspectors, developers, vendors, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Review contract documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine work scope, materials, and manpower requirements.
- Execute Work Plans for major components of work and monitor adherence.
- Order self-perform materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers, ensuring timely requisitioning.
- Monitor daily labor costs and production rates for accuracy and conformance with budgets; take corrective action to improve productivity.
- Encourage craftsmen to develop innovative methods for increasing efficiency and profitability; provide feedback and coaching.
- Execute hourly time card reporting and maintain all equipment assigned to the crew, including preventive maintenance training.
- Provide a detailed construction plan for each day and a general plan for the week; manage work to stay within schedule.
- Schedule all QA/QC inspections necessary to obtain owner acceptance of the work.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure it meets established tolerances; take corrective action when standards are not maintained.
- Manage the crew into an effectively coordinated working unit, fostering a motivating atmosphere and promoting training and development.
- Recommend personnel actions, such as promotions, discharges, or disciplinary measures, and initiate plans to motivate workers.
- Supervise subcontractors to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Conduct Tool Box and JHA Safety Meetings to instruct employee-owners on accident prevention.
- Enforce all safety regulations and company policies; remain alert to safety conditions.
- Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and work quality.
- Ensure compliance with plans and specifications; perform tasks associated with project closeout, including punch lists and demobilization.
- Maintain a detailed and accurate daily report of all field construction activities.
- Ensure equipment is used for its intended purpose correctly; interpret company policies to workers.
- Conduct on-the-job training for qualified personnel and record hours on the Foreman’s Daily Control.
- Fill out the Foreman’s Daily Control with employee-owners’ hours, job number, cost codes, quantities, etc.
Requirements
- 5+ years of industrial and supervisory experience preferred.
- Certifications/Licenses: NCCER, TWIC, and valid Driver’s License.
- No minimum education requirements.
- Must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States; Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
