About the role
The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for routine calibration and repair of plant instrument standards.
Responsibilities
- Calibrate various types of instrument standards and control elements, including: electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, temperature, pressure, level, flow, weight and weighing systems, analytical devices, and NIST Standards.
- Troubleshoot and perform corrective maintenance on instrument standards and control elements.
- Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System to document work activity.
- Provide detailed documentation of all calibration, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
- Issue and complete job hazard analysis/safe work permits (hot work, excavating, confined space, hazardous atmosphere, etc.).
- Adhere to cGMP, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, job plans, and/or equipment manuals to perform work.
- Responsible for maintaining training curriculum requirements.
- Complete required Instrumentation Qualifications.
- Assist with modification, installation, and startup of new and existing instrument standards.
Requirements
- Trainee: High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 2 years of experience in maintenance, manufacturing, mechanical trades, or utility equipment operation. A technical Associate’s degree may replace the experience requirement.
- Tech 1: Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field plus 2 years of relevant experience. Directly related experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Tech 2: Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field plus 4 years of relevant experience. Directly related experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Tech 3: Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field plus 6 years of relevant experience. Directly related experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.
Occupational Demands
- Work is performed in a manufacturing environment on a rotating dayshift (8HR M-F).
- Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
- Exposure to chemicals, electrical manufacturing equipment, hand tools, and moving machinery.
- Operates forklifts, tractors, and power equipment.
- Exposure to high levels of noise, dust, gas, fumes, and steam.
- Exposure to extreme cold (below 32°F) and occasional extreme heat (above 100°F).
- Exposure to vibration or oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
- Occasional entry into confined spaces requiring kneeling, crawling, climbing, and squatting.
- Works at heights on scaffolding and/or ladders; walks on uneven ground.
- Personal protective equipment required, such as: protective eyewear, chemical suits, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and a respirator.
- Heavy lifting and carrying of 45 lbs. for up to 6-8 hours per day, with a maximum lift of 75 lbs.
- Work is performed standing, walking, bending, and twisting the waist for 4-6 hours per day.
- Repetitive foot movements; occasional reaching above and below shoulder height.
- Occasional bending and twisting of the neck.
- Repetitive hand movements with simple grasping, requiring fast, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
- Ability to make precise, coordinated movements to grasp and manipulate objects.
- Hearing acuity is essential.
- Color perception/discrimination, depth perception, and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye.
- Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; ability to listen to and understand information presented through spoken and written words.
- Performs a wide range of complex tasks; adheres to a work schedule to meet production standards.
