Instrumentation Technician
About the role
This position entails both in-house repairs as well as travel to our varied customer sites (including power, energy, process, chemical, manufacturing, life sciences, pharma, food and beverage, and commercial) in New Jersey and the greater NYC metro area, troubleshooting and repair of the various instrumentation lines based on the manufacturer’s specifications. Approximately 15% is overnight, primarily in the spring and fall coinciding with plant outages. We’re currently seeking both early career and seasoned technicians.
Responsibilities
- Performs calibration and repairs based on manufacturer’s specifications.
- Reads PO / appointment invites and understands scope of work and expectation of the customer.
- Ensures the necessary and proper tools are on-hand for job assignment.
- Reviews and challenges coordinator that proper information is included in the job assignment for executing the efficiently.
- Communicates to Supervisor and Coordinator comfort level, ability or inability to complete assignment based on current skill set.
- Completes trip documentation within one week following the completion of each assignment.
- Ensures that work assigned vehicles are up to date on maintenance requests, clean and well organized.
- Responds to scheduled and unscheduled work orders.
- Provides technical support and information to customers and sales staff as needed.
- Follows ECI QA procedures and work instructions as directed in ECI service shop and on site.
- Responds to on-call requests outside of set work hours.
- Looks for additional opportunities within account and reports information to Services Operations Manager.
- Manages projects (including outage work and long-term assignments) in conjunction with Services Operations Manager.
- Promotes our other services to customers.
- Able to work during outage season and adhere to vacation blackouts (typically October and April each year).
- Notifies supervisor regarding parts or equipment in need of repair or replacement.
- Performs all duties according to safety procedures and safety best practices. Notifies supervisor of any safety concerns on or off-site.
- Able to take to Mechanical Aptitude Test and submit to random drug and alcohol testing through DISA program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in technical field preferred.
- 1-5 years in related field or environment.
- Experience as an electromechanical field tech doing calibration and repairs preferred.
- Demonstrates basic electrical and mechanical knowledge.
- Any knowledge of electrical and hydraulic actuators and familiarity with Pneumatics is a strong plus.
- Ability and knowledge of how to use hand tools and electronic testing equipment.
- Strong technical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting & repair skills.
- Must be able to obtain certifications in all required ECI and Principal programs.
- Ability to obtain and maintain TWIC and PSM credentials.
- Forklift, Scissors, lift, and confined spaces certification may also be required.
- Able to multitask.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Can work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Curiosity and desire to learn.
- Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
