About the role

The City of Yuma is seeking an Instrumentation & Control Technician to join the Department of Utilities. This position oversees and performs tasks involving the operation and maintenance of the City's Utilities Department SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, replaces, repairs, and calibrates process control components and system instrumentation for the SCADA systems for both Water and Wastewater (W/WW) treatment plants.
  • Notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority and training.
  • Responds to Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) service requests; inspects and repairs electronic instruments, meters, monitoring systems, telemetry, and other electronic components.
  • Examines equipment malfunctions, troubleshoots actual and potential problems, and replaces faulty components.
  • Reads and interprets diagrams, schematics and blueprints; works with electrical systems ranging from 4-20mA to 480 volts.
  • Maintains SCADA system database; documents repair and maintenance work performed; updates daily log of activities and parts inventory.
  • Assists with the planning and development of upgrades to the existing SCADA control system.
  • Evaluates and analyzes operational procedures and existing electronic equipment; assists in developing recommendations to maximize the effectiveness of the SCADA system.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years' experience in electronic control systems, industrial instrumentation equipment, or precision mechanical devices; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of Rockwell SCADA software is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • State and Federal rules and regulations controlling maintenance of W/WW treatment facilities.
  • Federal and state safety rules and regulations and emergency response procedures in W/WW utility plant environments.
  • Methods and procedures for installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic controls and devices.
  • Capabilities of networked computer systems and peripheral devices in a Windows OS environment.
  • Safe work practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions in a W/WW utility plant.

Skills

  • Reading and interpreting technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, sketches, and diagrams for electrical and electronic equipment and instruments.
  • Testing, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining electronic and electrical equipment and instruments.
  • Following safe work practices, and verbal and written instructions.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
