INSTRUMENT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR

About the Role

You will serve as an Instrument Mechanic Supervisor in the Calibration Laboratory Branch, Region Metrology Division, Quality Assurance Office of Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and oversee the work and performance of lower-level employees.
• Plan the sequence of operations for calibration and testing activities.
• Provide training to lower-level employees on technical and procedural matters.
• Maintain records and furnish information regarding daily distribution of work assignments.
• Perform a wide range of personnel management matters, including work assignments and performance evaluations.
• Supervise instrument mechanics assigned to calibration lab work sites, vessels, and other specified work areas.
• Lead a team in applying advanced analytical and problem-solving techniques to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex operational deficiencies in instrumentation and control systems.
• Plan, assign, and review the work of subordinate mechanics, ensuring accurate interpretation and application of technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings.
• Oversee and validate complex mathematical computations and technical calculations performed by the team to ensure accuracy and integrity of test data and results.
• Manage the preparation and approval of comprehensive technical documentation, including reports and certificates of calibration, ensuring compliance with organizational and industry standards.
• Communicate technical, administrative, and personnel-related information effectively to subordinates, management, engineers, and customers to coordinate work, resolve issues, and represent the team.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

• Ability to manage the preparation and approval of comprehensive technical documentation, ensuring all team reports and certificates of calibration comply with organizational and industry standards.
• Ability to communicate technical, administrative, and personnel-related information effectively to subordinates, management, engineers, and customers.
