Instrument Maker III

About the role

This position is a highly responsible technical research position at UGA Instrument Shop. Incumbent is responsible for designing, repairing, and manufacturing complex scientific equipment.

Responsibilities

• Detect and repair a wide range of scientific instruments such as shakers, incubators, centrifuges, and specialized custom-built equipment.
• Work closely with researchers and students to develop, refine, repair, and modify custom scientific instruments and experimental equipment.
• Develop and construct specialized scientific electrical systems incorporating PLC programming and alphanumeric-based control logic.
• Create and maintain work orders, procurement requests, and comprehensive documentation outlining the details of completed service activities.
• Identify, source, and request to procure components and materials essential for scientific instrumentation repair, along with performing other supporting operational tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.
• Ability to read and write G-Code programs for CNC equipment.
• Knowledge of complex electrical wiring is required.
• Use of Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, GibbsCam, software.
• Build and program various scientific electrical systems or components needed to operate custom devices.
• Diagnose, source parts, and repair campus laboratory equipment such as shakers, incubators, and centrifuges.

Qualifications

• Experience with alphanumeric programming, PLC, and Ladder logic would be helpful.
• Knowledge of complex electrical wiring is required.

Benefits

Benefits Eligibility: Benefits eligible. Full/Part time: Full Time. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am -5pm. Proposed Starting Date: 08/16/2026. Posting Date: 07/20/2026. Open until filled. No Closing Date.

Pay

Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00.
