Position Summary
About the role
Provide Instrumentation Engineering functions for the Reliability Engineering team. Utilizes sound judgment in the development and management of engineered specifications and selections for a variety of applications. Should be able to multi-task within multiple project requirements at once.
Responsibilities
- Utilize technical expertise for the specification, design, purchase, installation and commissioning of instrument, electronic and pneumatic instrumentation, field instrumentation, analyzers and emergency shutdown systems.
- Provide ongoing technical support to operations and maintenance departments on instrumentation problems.
- Lead and manage the plantwide Instrument Bad Actor Program to enhance overall instrument reliability.
- Prepare and modify instrument drawings, data sheets, I/O wiring diagrams, P&IDs, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs.
- Provide quality control and design reviews of new projects that involve instrumentation to drive refinery best practices and preferred supplier selections to engineering standards and practices.
- Evaluate, design, specify and make cost estimates, to prepare and submit project AFEs.
- Oversee varying complexity of instrument projects.
- Technical ownership of plants instrumentation specification sheet database.
- Foster an atmosphere for personal achievement and teamwork both within and outside the Department.
- Champion new, innovative and visionary technologies that are cost effective and value driven to meet the competitive needs of the Refinery.
- Drive instrument reliability and value-addition in all aspects of equipment lifecycle.
- Participate in cross functional area reliability teams.
- Assist in developing PM, PDM, and CBM policies and procedures.
- Research and monitor upcoming technology changes to improve future strategies within the Refinery.
- Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions.
Requirements
- Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation or Control Systems Engineering required.
- Experience Requirements: 2+ years related industrial experience preferred.
- Practical knowledge of instrumentation and analytical systems.
- Technical understanding of refining processes, preferred.
- Effective communication skills; verbal and written.
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong orientation to customer service.
- Fluent in English, oral and written required.
- Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs.
