Instrument Electrical Technician
Primary purpose: safe execution of installation, repair, and testing of facility instrumented and electrical systems at the North Salt Lake, UT plant.
Responsibilities
- Follows lockout, tag-out procedures, checks for documentation of entry permit, and ensures the area is safe to work
- Attends daily meetings to receive and discuss priority and routine work orders
- Performs scheduled and preventative maintenance tasks
- Applies working knowledge of electrical safety and construction codes
- Selects, installs, and operates measurement devices
- Inspects worksite to determine changes in operational capabilities, including dismantling equipment using hand and power tools to locate failed components (motors, pumps, or valves)
- Operates fork truck
- Communicates findings to supervisors, including urgency of repairs to minimize interference with unit operations
- Assesses failed equipment, requests replacement parts, and reassembles equipment
- Tests, inspects, and calibrates vent pressure, chillers, analyzers, leak testing, and performs monthly safety equipment inspections (e.g., harnesses, respirators, high-voltage gloves, goggles)
- Researches new technologies to improve equipment efficiency and reliability; communicates with vendors for product literature and studies
- Follows diagnosis of electrical layout, ensuring concealed wiring is installed before completion of walls, ceilings, and flooring
- Reads and interprets paper and CAD drawings
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using proper tools
- Connects power, control, and ground cables to equipment
- Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels
- Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments
- Completes all regulatory and company-mandated training to comply with health, safety, food safety, and environmental requirements
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- NCCER Certification is a plus
- 2+ years of directly related experience in industrial electrical maintenance
Skills
- Computer literacy
- Heavy instrumentation experience preferred
- Able to diagnose problems
- Able to work alone or as a team member
- Able to read and follow safety rules, PPE, and instructions
- Able to use and maintain shop tools and equipment
- Able to interpret drawings for maintenance troubleshooting and new construction
- Able to use a computer for tasks such as maintenance logs, work orders, material orders, training, and displaying CAD drawings
- Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices, including proper wearing of clean protective clothing, personal hygiene standards, and adherence to food/drink/tobacco restrictions
Work Environment
Work is performed in the plant as well as the maintenance shop. Frequent physical demands include regular lifting (some heavy), stair climbing, working in heat, and handling tools, piping, metal, and grinders.

Pay
- Technician II: $28.94 - $32.15 per hour
- Technician III: $34.09 - $37.88 per hour
- Technician IV: $37.19 - $41.33 per hour
