Instructor Weapons Systems Officer / Subject Matter Expert

Projected start date: June 1, 2026. Salary according to Collective Bargaining Agreement. Location: Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX.

About the role

Sonoran Technology & Professional Services is currently performing B-52 and B-1 Contract Aircrew Training and Courseware Development at Barksdale AFB, LA and Dyess AFB, TX. Our mission is to assist in the development of B-52 and B-1 combat-ready aircrew in support of nuclear deterrence and global strike operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform academic instruction using lesson plans to accomplish required lesson tasks.
• Issue any lesson-related student materials (excluding individual student publications distributed by Government personnel, such as operational Technical Orders, Air Force Manuals, Handbooks, Instructions, and/or Wing Instructions).
• Perform academic instruction as required by the applicable syllabi or training plans.
• Provide the appropriate instructor/subject matter expert (SME) for student assistance during selected self-paced and computer-based instruction, as directed by the Government.
• Ensure proper use of equipment in the Learning Center and report any equipment problems to the TRSS Detachment.
• Provide make-up instruction of academic lessons to students who have missed class or failed an examination.
• Report failed examinations in accordance with the syllabi and local Formal Training Unit (FTU) written policy.
• Provide remedial student training in accordance with the appropriate syllabus or training plan, scheduled to allow continued normal progression.
• Administer and score examinations, with the minimum passing score as directed by the syllabi and local directives. All examinations will be debriefed to 100%.
• Accomplish trend analysis and evaluation as described in AFMAN 36-2234 and DAF HANDBOOK 36-2675. Analyze examination results for trends toward faulty questions and deficient instruction, documenting results in the Training Evaluation Document.
• Develop, review, and respond to end-of-phase and end-of-course critiques of academic instruction. Provide overall results and changes to the government in the monthly contract status report.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Secret Clearance.
• Qualified in the B-1 aircraft within the last 7 years (for B-1 instructors).
• Qualified as a contract instructor in the B-1 within the preceding two years (for B-1 instructors).
• Previous flight instructor/evaluator experience in the B-1 (for B-1 instructors).
• Must have completed a formal Criterion Referenced Instruction (CRI) course (or attend within six months after start of training as an instructor). Completion of the Air Combat Command Academic Instructor Course or MAJCOM equivalent satisfies this requirement.
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.

Qualifications (Highly Desired)

• More than 2,000 flying hours in the B-1 aircraft.
• More than 500 instructor flying hours in the B-1 aircraft.
• Previous experience as an academic (FTU) platform instructor.
• Previous experience as a training device (simulator) instructor.
• Qualified in the B-1 within the preceding four years (for B-1 instructors).
