Instructor, Trades Pathways
Description
Revolution Workshop is a social enterprise dedicated to providing workforce development for unemployed or underemployed individuals in Chicago. This position reports directly to the Program Manager and works full-time year-round at our Chicago, IL training facility.
Work Hours
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
- Thursday: 7:00 am - 1:30 pm
- Occasional evenings and weekends as required
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced tradesperson passionate about building the future of construction in Chicago. This individual will train trainees in construction basics and develop their soft skills through a trauma-informed approach.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Technical Training:
- Implement all technical aspects of the Pre-apprenticeship Construction Training Program
- Provide hands-on experience and construction lab training for NCCER Core Certification
- Teach introductory construction topics and lead hands-on projects
- Simulate a job site environment and reinforce essential skills
- Assess and evaluate trainee progress and build relationships
- Maintain a safe and efficient shop environment
- Support job site tours and social enterprise projects
- Teamwork:
- Open the site location by 7:00 am each day
- Collaborate with case management staff to address challenges and develop plans
- Attend meetings and training sessions at multiple locations
- Assist with facilities management as needed
- Administration:
- Maintain and organize shop tools and equipment
- Submit orders for supplies and tools
- Other tasks as assigned

Work Environment
The position is performed in a shop environment. Employees are exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Noise levels are usually quiet to moderate.

Requirements
- 5+ years construction experience/journey level experience
- Strong background in carpentry, preferred
- Moderate computer skills (Google G Suite, Microsoft Office)
- Lived experience or at least two years experience working with diverse groups
- Confidentiality and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan and stage daily tasks for 25 trainees
- Demonstrated workflow design skills
- Recognition and response to emerging priorities
Preferred
- OSHA 10/30 Certification
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or training
- Foreman, Crew Lead, or supervisory experience
Schedule
This is a full-time, year-round position.
Pay
$60,000 - $67,500 annually
