Instructor, Stages (Technical Instructor)
Stages at the J (The Jewish Community Center’s Youth Theatre program) offers performance opportunities for students with a wide range of talents and backgrounds in theatre. We are currently seeking an instructor to help with technical direction for 101 Dalmatians Kids and How To Train Your Dragon Jr. for students ranging from 2nd through 12th grade.
Schedule
The position will work September 6th – November 29th. Part-time hours are Sundays 12:15 pm – 5:15 pm, with additional commitments:
- Dry Tech on November 23rd
- Student Tech Rehearsals on November 18th and 28th
- Performance Dates on November 22nd and 29th
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and fun environment
- Oversee and assist in set building and prop sourcing for student production
- Be prepared and dressed to reflect a positive image of The J
- Oversee scenic painting and instruct on techniques
- Communicate with supervisor about any problems and concerns in the classroom
Requirements
- Prior experience with stage/theatre productions, preferably school-aged productions
- Experience in elementary education and teaching a variety of ages and skill levels, especially 2nd – 12th grade
- Ability to provide exemplary customer service to students and their parents/guardians
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students of all ages and abilities
B.F.A. or other degree related to teaching or theatre preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent talking and hearing
- Occasional sitting, standing, walking, and exposure to loud noise from sound systems
- Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs
